Harlequin Category Decision Tree

December 20, 2010

For anyone writing category romances, have a look at this amazing Harlequin Category Decision Tree.

This was posted by Jamie Michele at The Ruby Slippered Sisterhood, who were the Golden Heart finalists of 2009 and a wonderful group of writers.

Jamie says…..If you’ve been wondering if your romance novel might fit into Harlequin’s super awesome universe of series romance, then you’ve come to the right place. I know it’s not perfect, and I’m still not totally sure of how to tease out the differences between Harlequin American Romance and Silhouette Special Edition, but it should get you close to understanding which lines your writing best suits.

It only includes Harlequin’s series romance lines that are listed as such in the eHarlequin bookstore.  That means no HQN, Mira, Luna, Spice, Harlequin Teen, Kimani Arabesque, or Kimani TRU, but does include Kimani Romance, the Silhouette, and Love Inspired. I do not recommend using this decision tree as the sole weapon in your arsenal for making your decision.
